ABOUT Shine

Shine is a unique workspace and events venue in Harehills, Leeds, bringing together businesses, entrepreneurs, artists and the local community in a beautifully converted Grade II listed former school. We offer flexible offices, coworking, meeting and event facilities, alongside excellent in-house catering featuring freshly prepared, seasonal food.

Since opening our doors in 2008, we've been driven by a mission to raise aspirations and create opportunities for the local community. From providing inspiring spaces for businesses to grow, to supporting women, artists and disadvantaged communities, making a positive difference has always been at the heart of what we do.

Today, as Shine, powered by Allia Workspace, we're part of a wider network of workspaces supporting innovative businesses driving positive social and environmental impact.

THE SHINE WAY

When we opened almost 20 years ago, we set out to show how a business could create opportunities and make a positive difference in its community.

Through our social enterprise business model, we've used our spaces and connections to empower women in business, art and life, support women leaving prison, bring arts and educational experiences to local children and inspire entrepreneurs

Over the years, we've helped local entrepreneurs secure new business, provided exhibition opportunities for artists and enabled thousands of children from Harehills to experience theatre and learn about growing food.

Supporting women in business has been a particular focus, including through initiatives such as SheCanShine, which empowers female entrepreneurs with workspace, networking, mentoring and education. The programme continues to operate from our building, independently run.

Our catering is another distinctive part of what we offer at Shine. With our own kitchen on site, we prepare fresh, seasonal food for everything from business meetings and conferences to private events, catering for events both at Shine and at external venues. Our menus feature locally sourced and organic ingredients wherever possible, with an emphasis on flavourful, plant-based dishes alongside a range of other options. We also take care to minimise our environmental impact, from reducing food waste to using recyclable packaging and electric vehicles for deliveries.

Shine and Allia Workspace

In October 2026, our building was acquired by Allia Workspace, bringing Shine into a wider network of workspaces dedicated to supporting businesses and entrepreneurs. Allia Workspace provides affordable, flexible workspaces for innovative businesses driving positive social and environmental impact. Across its locations, it creates vibrant, supportive business ecosystems, providing entrepreneurs and organisations with the space, connections and training opportunities they need to succeed and grow.

As Shine, powered by Allia Workspace, we're retaining our name, character and familiar team. We continue to offer flexible offices, coworking, meeting and event spaces, alongside our established catering services.

Through Allia Workspace, we're part of the wider Allia Group, a family of companies working to support charities and businesses making a positive impact for people, place and planet. The Group is owned by its parent charity, Allia Foundation, which receives available profits from the Group's companies and provides grants to fund free training programmes for eligible, aspiring entrepreneurs.

We're proud of Shine's history and the role we've played in our local community. With Allia Workspace, we look forward to continuing to provide a welcoming place for businesses, entrepreneurs and the Leeds community.
